Description

With his third release with the Mack Avenue label “Be Water” released in the summer of 2020, Christian Sands establishes himself as a band leader and protagonist of the contemporary jazz scene, bringing an unprecedented look at the entire language of jazz. In his stunning new album, Sands takes inspiration from the tranquility and power of water and reflects on the infinite possibilities offered by its fluidity and malleability. At just 30 years old, Sands already has a notable career behind him and has become familiar to the general public as a member first of the orchestra and then of the Christian McBride trio, as well as having worked with artists of the caliber of Gregory Porter, Geri Allen, Esperanza Spaulding and many others. He has played for International Jazz Day in Cuba and at numerous important international jazz festivals – Montenegro, Monterey, Newport, Montreux to name a few. His musical culture and knowledge of the history of jazz allow him to maintain strong ties with his roots; at the same time, Sands is an artist leaning forward, in the belief that jazz cannot linger on the patterns of the past. “A jazz star of the future” as Wynton Marsalis defined him
