Saxophonist James Brandon Lewis, who has garnered attention in both free jazz and contemporary jazz, makes his first appearance with his latest release, Apple Cores! After attending Howard University and California Institute of the Arts, Brandon moved to New York City in 2012, where he released his first album, Divine Travels, in 2014, and his recent album, Jesup Wagon, was voted Album of the Year by the critics of jazz magazine Downbeat. The core members of “Apple Cores” will be on stage with Chad Taylor, founder of the Chicago Underground, and Josh Warner, who is also known for his reggae and experimental rock. Hailed as “one of the most intense sounds in jazz today” (The Guardian) and “a quest without limits” (Pitchfork), this is an up-close and personal experience of the musical world of this talented artist.
