Panel Series: RELIGION, SOCIETY, ART

Participants: Mr. Velibor Martinović, theologian and archaeologist; Mr. Jovan Blagojević, theologian, Biblical Cultural Center

Moderator: Sergej Beuk, Belgrade Youth Center

Various myths concur in recognizing writing as a gift from the gods. Mesopotamian Nabu, Egyptian Thoth, Greek Hermes... all are givers of writing and wisdom, those who convey messages between worlds. Literacy was understood as hierophany – manifestation from higher realms, and writing itself as a hieroglyph – a sign originating from higher worlds. How did writing evolve from pictographic to syllabic to alphabetic? How did this impact the religious world and experience? What do we know about biblical languages, and how did the Bible, with its language and literariness, influence modern languages and cultures, including the Slavs?

About the Panel Series 'RELIGION, SOCIETY, ART'

Modern society faces numerous challenges and seeks answers to key questions. Can religion offer some of these answers? What does it tell us about human rights, ecological issues, art, and education? We will attempt to answer these and related questions through the panel series 'Religion, Society, Art'. The program will cover topics in the field of phenomenology of religion, history of religions, and comparative religious studies, as well as exploring the relationship of religion with related areas of human thought and creativity.

The program is organized in collaboration with the Belgrade Youth Center and the Biblical Cultural Center.
