The Grammy Award-winning quintet from Charleston, SC, delves into the timeless music rooted in the Gullah culture of the southeastern Sea Islands. Their debut album gained recognition on NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross and the TODAY show, topping the Billboard, Amazon, and iTunes Jazz Charts. Their latest release, “Good Time,” features a mix of playful game songs, ecstatic shouts, heartbreaking spirituals, and their first original songs inspired by the Gullah tradition, showcasing the group’s musical diversity and cultural heritage. This performance is funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the North Carolina Arts Council.
