Description
The American Sheherazaad, who has Indian roots, is the youngest protégé of Arooj Aftab (the first Pakistani artist ever to win a Grammy Award) and recently impressed with her album Qasr (Urdu for “castle/fort”). Her name is a nod to the Persian storyteller of One Thousand and One Nights, and in Hindi and Urdu it also means “free city.” In her music, she blends elements of Western classical music with traditional South Asian influences, making her work neither purely South Asian nor entirely Western. Sheherazaad creates an entirely new, enchanting, almost otherworldly soundscape. A revelation!
