Description

Pickpocket, a band that has established itself firmly in the alternative metal and post-hardcore genres, will be performing at 6:45 KK Ankara on Tuesday, February 3rd!

Founded in Istanbul in 2000 by Onur Özgönül and Barbaros Özoktar, the band has grown into an energetic and dynamic force with the addition of Muratay Özkan, Kaan Yayla, and Emir Çelt.

Starting their musical journey with English-language songs, Pickpocket gradually shifted towards Turkish-language works, inspired by their listeners. This strategic decision was a significant turning point for both the band and their fanbase. Pickpocket's first major success, bringing their name to a wider audience, came in 2003 with their song 'Just Wait for Me' at the Roxy %100 Music Days. Winning first prize in the competition, the group became an indispensable name in the Turkish alternative music scene with this impressive achievement. Playing a pioneering role in bringing extreme music to a wider audience in Turkey, Pickpocket continued to attract attention with their stage energy and creative music. In 2008, their first album, "Hayalle Gerçek Arasında", produced by Ümit Kuzer and Martin Cru Spencer, opened a new chapter in the group's career. The album's lead single, "Vazgeç", with its music video directed by Anıl Tütüncüoğlu, reached over 750,000 views on YouTube and was streamed over 1.5 million times on Spotify. The music videos for the subsequent songs "Hayalle Gerçek Arasında" and "Ne Farkeder" further strengthened the group's connection with their fan base.

Released in 2013, their second album, “Uyan”, showcased Pickpocket’s mature musical vision. Released on the Musicworks label, the album was recorded at Deneyevi Studios under the production of Mehmet Yaranona (Kül, Shiva, Mauna Kea). The mastering was completed by Troy Glessner, who has worked with world-renowned bands such as Norma Jean, August Burns Red, Underoath, and MxPx. The music video for the title track, “Uyan,” directed by Barış Alp, received high praise from both music lovers and critics. After this album, the band took a long break from performing, but decided to reunite based on feedback from their fans. They returned to the stage on April 8, 2025, at IF Beşiktaş, and continued their momentum. This year, they also performed at Headbangers’ Weekend, one of the biggest metal festivals, delivering a striking performance.
