Where Ink Becomes Light

The exhibition marks 150 years since the birth of Ernest Bošnjak, a pioneer of Yugoslav cinematography.

Ernest Bošnjak (1876-1963) was the first Yugoslav cinematographer, director, and producer. Born in Sombor, he studied printing there and worked as a printer in Budapest, Pest, Szeged, and Subotica.

In 1906, he returned to Sombor, founded a printing house and engraving workshop, brought a movie projector, and opened a cinema.

In 1909, he filmed the first Yugoslav feature film depicting girls playing in Sombor park near the County Building.

For his contributions to Yugoslav cinema, he received a state pension.
