Museum of Chinese in America’s Performing-Artist-In-Residence program presents works-in-progress by resident artists on the theme Declaration of Independence, exploring what it means to be American, self-determination, visibility, freedom, and belonging. Audience engages in conversation with artists.

Shuning Huang, choreographer and dancer based in New York, trained in Chinese classical and folk dance, ballet, modern, and contemporary. Principal dancer with Six Degrees Dance and New York Chinese Culture Center. Performed at US Open, Queens Museum, etc. Choreography at Spark Theatre Festival, exploring tradition, identity, contemporary expression.

Project: Unpapered, 40-minute dance work using paper as choreography—folding, sealing, filing—to question how documents shape identity and belonging. Inspired by migration paper trails, rooted in Chinese dance, calligraphy, painting.

Yu-Wei Heath-Hsiao, violinist, pianist, educator from Taiwan, DMA from Rutgers. Winner of 2024 Charleston International Music Competition. First violin at Berkshire Opera Festival.

Project: Bowing Reminiscence: My Violin through a Memory Decoction, immersive performance and sensory installation blending violin, Taiwanese folk songs, herbal teas (Hawthorn, Goji, Red Dates) to explore Taiwanese immigrant experience, heritage, memory.
