SUNN O))), the duo of Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson, have pushed heavy music boundaries for nearly 30 years, blending avant-garde and rock. Their tenth album, self-titled on Sub Pop—their first new material since 2019’s Pyroclasts—was recorded at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington, with producer Brad Wood. Performed exclusively as a duo, it features expansive tracks like “XXANN,” “Mindrolling,” and “Glory Black” with field recordings, piano, and feedback. Earlier maxi-single included “Eternity’s Pillars,” “Raise The Chalice,” and “Reverential.” Album art uses Mark Rothko paintings; liner notes by Robert Macfarlane.
