Sensory Overload presents VOLUMES by Ezra Masch

Friday, Sept. 6th - Greg Fox, Val Jeanty, Mike Gonzales - 7pm-9pm Saturday, Sept. 7th - Nate Smith, Ben Sloan, Brannen Temple - 7pm-9pm Sunday, Sept. 8th - Open Call* - 1pm-6pm

VOLUMES is an audio-visual experience created by interdisciplinary artist Ezra Masch. The ongoing project uses live sound from a drum set to activate a series of site-specific light installations. Masch transforms galleries and exhibition spaces into unique interactive audio-visual instruments. Participating musicians are invited to explore the connection between sound, light, and space through live performance.

This September, VOLUMES returns to Austin with a brand new light system incorporating color and AI. The event at Distribution Hall will feature performances by drummers Nate Smith (Brittany Howard/Vulfpeck), Ben Sloan (The National, Moses Sumney), Greg Fox (Liturgy, Zs), Val Jeanty (Val-Inc), and Mike Gonzales (Gina Chavez, Gary Clark Jr.). In addition to nightly performances, the installation will be accessible to Austin-based musicians during the day on Sunday, September 8th through an Open Session (open to all ticketholders for the Friday and Saturday night shows).

For this iteration of VOLUMES, Masch has partnered with the Sensory Overload event series put on by EVANS/D'Addario, a manufacturer of inspiring musical products for drummers and instrumentalists around the globe, and Sunhouse, a technology company that creates innovative, AI-powered software for the music industry. The upcoming installation will utilize the Evans Hybrid Sensory Percussion Sound System. Masch will use this state-of-the-art drum hardware/software system to create responsive visuals in collaboration with each featured artist.
