On Friday 26 September, MAW25 welcomes critically acclaimed Middlesbrough electronic band Benefits to The Auxiliary for an exclusive one off collaborative performance with sound artist James Adrian Brown.
As well as playing pieces from their recent album "Constant Noise" (co-produced by James Adrian Brown), they will also be performing an interpretation of "Factotum" by North Shields composer and DJ Geoff Kirkwood. Factotum is a continuous 30 minute electronic composition which takes initial inspiration from Vangelis, Verdi and Gershwin that Benefits will be adapting and accentuating with their own influences: Scott Walker, acid house, Hans Zimmer, to name a few.
Expect heavy beats, maximalist drones, and industrial noise against a backdrop of hypnotic lights and pulsing strobes.
Gaining rave reviews for their last two albums from the likes of NME, Rolling Stone, Uncut, Clash, Louder Than War and even The Times newspaper, as well as touring most of Europe over the last 18 months (including performances at Roadburn in Tilburg, BRDCST in Brussels, and Glastonbury), a resolutely DIY outfit, Teesside's Benefits have stuck to their principles and remain uncompromising, inspiring and full of heart.
Also playing are Slow White Fall, the industrial post-rock project of techno legend Oliver Ho.
