Exhibition "THE THRESHOLD OF THE UNSPEAKABLE" by Relja Stevanović
From February 24 to March 13, 2026.
- DOB//Gallery
The exhibition project, "The Threshold of the Unspeakable," thematically draws on the idea of death as the ultimate and unavoidable certainty that encompasses every human being. The role of the image is to open up a space for contemplative reflection, in which the viewer encounters their own concept of finitude. Death is conceived as a silent but inevitable truth that places a person in a questioning relationship with life.
Attempting to define death verbally means standing on the threshold of the ineffable. In the rare moments when all external stimuli cease, the thought of death is unavoidable, forcing the mind to confront the prospect of its own end. Death is then not a distant concept, but a thought that shapes our being, even when it is not immediately present. The painting in this project positions itself as a medium that strives for self-reflection: each work is an attempt to capture the moment of encounter with the ephemeral. Starting from the idea that death is not just an event but a boundary that shapes our understanding of life, the works explore how to arrive at a mental or material space for contemplation that will lead the viewer to a deeper understanding of the personal.
