Workshop for children 'Who lives in the old house?'

June 14, 13:00 - 14:00

The house where the Museum of Vuk and Dositej is located today is over 250 years old and represents the oldest preserved residential building in Belgrade. Once, it was inhabited by the guardian of the sultan's treasury.

What was daily life like in the 18th century – where cooking was done, what was eaten and drank, what clothing was worn, where resting took place, and what did children play with? By deciphering the purpose of once common, now strange and forgotten objects, children will discover how people lived in this house over two centuries ago, at a time when the guardian of the sultan's treasury resided in it.

In the practical part of the workshop, children will be encouraged to bring to life the characters of the old town – someone will be a defterdar, a merchant, a mail carrier, a traveler, or a child. They will write about their characters, draw them, optionally act them out, and their works will be compiled into a collective project – a small children's history of the Museum of Vuk and Dositej.
