Põhjala viis. Heino Elleri viiulimuusika I. Triin Ruubel (violin), Sten Lassmann (piano). The concert features beautiful and soul-soothing compositions by Heino Eller, the founder of Estonian national instrumental music, characterized by bright lyricism and northern austerity. Eller's northernness stemmed from the desire to find a 'sound breed suitable for Estonia,' with his pantheistically inspired works focusing on the beauty and uniqueness of the homeland's nature. This deepened nature sensibility carries pieces like the title 'Põhjamaine viis', romantic 'Kuuvalgel', emblematic 'Männid', and 'Avarused' for solo violin—though some showcase unmatched virtuosity and refined European aesthetics in Estonian violin music. Shining violinist Triin Ruubel and internationally acclaimed pianist Sten Lassmann recently recorded all of Artur Lemba's violin works for the first time, released as Artur Lemba Complete Chamber Music, Vol. 1 in June 2024 by Toccata Classics, earning praise including 'Critic's Choice 2025' in American Record Guide. Now they undertake the first complete interpretation of Heino Eller's violin works, planned for two albums this and next year.
