In the industrial space of Hangar

A three-day performative installation Change the Frame has been opened, a joint artistic project of the young painter Anđela Abramović and the author of textual interventions Julija Kasteluči. This event, which blurs the boundaries between painting, space, thoughts, and body, presented to the audience one of the bravest artistic experiences of the new generation.

At the opening itself, visitors were invited to change the usual perception of art. In the darkness of the hangar space, with light sentences floating on the walls and a blue carpet leading straight into the unknown, the audience had to climb the scaffold just to see the artworks at all.

'The lighting is set up in a way that the paintings cannot be seen from the ground... Only when you climb the scaffold, you experience the paintings. And even if they were there in front of you a minute before, you then experience them in the right way,' said Anđela Abramović. Her works, emotional and intuitive, are exhibited on the floor, while visitors become actors - elevated and illuminated, placed 'on a pedestal'.

'I don't want to make exhibitions on white walls, with white light. I want the audience to be at the center. I create for her, not for buyers, critics, or gallery owners,' added the artist.

Together with Kasteluči, who intervenes in the space with projections of thoughtful sentences, Anđela brings an artistic manifesto: change the frame. This is not just an exhibition - it is a call for change.

'Changing the frame is an art that doesn't display, but triggers,' states the artistic declaration.

The installation doesn't provide answers, but creates conditions for questions. One visitor described the experience in these words:

'This seems like we're in the middle of L.A. Outside the sun, inside total darkness, industrial environment, and then art, ideas, inspiration of a young artist appear in front of you.'

Professor Feti Dautović, a prominent theorist and lecturer at Belgrade and foreign universities, stated after the opening:

'Anđela has eclipsed all men - in quality, quantity, and high seriousness of her own sensibility reduced to the level of two-dimensional representation of visual culture, as well as her own relationship to this eerie urban reality. She presented her work in a creative, demanding, and original way, and as a professor at the University of Belgrade and some other foreign universities, I am proud of Anđela and honored to address you and open my heart in front of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, because Anđela is like my child, she is the child of our country walking on the serious paths of professionals.'

'Follow me, there will be more,' Anđela said. 'Every time you will experience something that takes you out of the routine. My art doesn't lead you into the gallery - but beyond reality.'

The performative installation 'Change the Frame' was open to visitors on May 21 and 22, 2025, from 6.00 p.m. at Hangar in Belgrade.
