One of Britain’s most influential folk musicians, Martin Carthy MBE – who marks his 84th Birthday this year – remains an enduring force in the genre. A key figure in the 60s folk revival, influencing artists such as Paul Simon, across a six decade career, he has collaborated with icons like Dave Swarbrick, Steeleye Span, and The Watersons, honoured with an MBE and multiple BBC Folk Awards.
Off the back of a new album Transform Me Then Into A Fish, revisiting and reinterpreting his classic 1965 debut, Martin’s full-circle journey continues with a special performance at Dalston’s Earth Theatre on Saturday 27th September, presented by Broadside Hacks.
The evening is set to celebrate Martin’s incredible journey, and the countless influential projects he has contributed to across years, such as, Martin Carthy & Dave Swarbrick, Albion Country Band, Steeleye Span, The Watersons, Mike & Lal Waterson’s Bright Phoebus, Brass Monkey, The Imagined Village and Waterson:Carthy.
Joining him will be an illustrious array of friends, fans and collaborators, past and present. The evening will feature performances from the likes of Billy Bragg (The Imagined Village) Graham Coxon, Goblin Band, Nick Hart, John Kirkpatrick (Brass Monkey), Calum MacColl (son Ewan MacColl & Peggy Seeger), Angeline Morrison, Emily Portman, Maddy Prior (Steeleye Span), Peggy Seeger, Martin Simpson, Marry Waterson (daughter of Lal Waterson), Jon Wilks, Tim Van Eyken (Waterson: Carthy) and many more.
