Description

Glastonbury-based Nick Parker started gigging in his early teens, playing mandolin and singing in folk/rock/skiffle band ‘Why?’, performing at hundreds of venues and festivals around the UK and Europe. In 1998, he formed guitar band ‘Tobermory’, which toured Germany before their last gig in 2004. Since 2010, Nick has pursued a solo career with over 30 tours in the UK and Europe, releasing five full-length albums featured on BBC6 Music and other stations. His tongue-in-cheek, cheerful songs often involve audience participation for lyrics, sound effects, basslines, or duets. He performs solo or with band ‘Nick Parker and the False Alarms’, a folky/rocky/country group using guitars, fiddle, pedal steel, banjo, mandolin, cornet, accordion, keys, whistles, pipes, bass, and drums. They’ve collaborated with Les ‘Fruitbat’ Carter on Carter USM’s ‘Only Living Boy in New Cross’. Nick also gigs as a duo with fiddle player Ben Wain. He has shared stages with The Wedding Present, Bright Eyes, Chris Difford, Tom Robinson, and provided tour support for Levellers, Ginger Wildheart & the Sinners, and Skinny Lister. During the pandemic, his ‘Stranger Tunes’ series featured musicians from Pearl Jam, Levellers, The Wonder Stuff, Boomtown Rats, and Blossoms. Nick creates lyric videos and stop-motion animations, with works selected for Leeds International Film Festival and featured on Levellers’ ‘Peace’ DVD.
