After high school and briefly attending the University of South Carolina, he gained a regional following as a performer, before moving to Nashville to further his musical dreams. Within a few years he had written a number one song for Lee Greenwood, “Holding a Good Hand”, and signed a recording contract with Arista Records. His first three singles as an artist reached numbers 7, 8 and 11 on the Radio and Records Country Chart (top twenty in Billboard). One of them, “She’s a Natural”, was also later recorded by the legendary Don Williams.
