Description

Sahra Halgan, an iconic artist from Somaliland (independent since 1991 but unrecognized internationally), performs with her group, presenting their third album Hiddo Dhawr ('preserve the culture'), named after the cultural center she built in Hargeisa dedicated to music and poetry. The album fuses traditional Somali songs—ancient poetry, celebrations, dances, love, and politics—with innovative modernity and raw rock origins, showcased through her warm voice. Amid war against Somali dictator Mohamed Siad Barre's repression, she earned the nickname 'Halgan' (the fighter), winning her people's hearts. Exiled in France, she founded the Sahra Halgan Trio in 2010 for an international career.
