Description

Mandala Arts, alongside Sonny, Riyaaz Qawwali, and Markeyta Sconiers, presents 'Qawwali and Gospel: Singing Together' for the very first time! FEATURING FAREED HAQUE GTRS AND CHETHAN ANANT, BANSURI FLUTE.

Mandala South Asian Performing Arts is collaborating with musicians Sonny with Riyaaz Qawwali and gospel artist Markeyta Sconiers to build bridges between ethnic and faith-based communities. The culmination of workshops combining Gospel music with Qawwali, a devotional musical tradition rooted in Sufi Islam, Mandala has worked with South Asian community members in the Devon neighborhood on Chicago’s North Side and Black Gospel groups based on Chicago’s South Side to create new music that highlights parallels between the two genres while celebrating their distinct historic roots, connecting communities and cultures. Also performing on the program are guitarist Fareed Haque and Chethan Anant on the bansuri, an Indian flute.
