Stevan Kovac Tikmajer
Composer, pianist for decades a significant name on a European scale, has presented himself to the public as a writer. With the book published in the edition Kontrateg (Futura Publications, Nojzac), he aims and succeeds in telling us 'something that few have spoken of so far: a partial history of a kind of artistic underground in Novi Sad of the 1980s. It is not about the alternative rock scene of those times in Novi Sad, about which much has already been recorded – it is about its alternative.'
It is quite natural then that 'this is not a story of an exceptionally successful life on the sidelines of the cultural margin of the 1980s Novi Sad because success was precisely lacking in it.' After all, the author will say, 'the most boring are those stories that describe success, or paraphrasing Tolstoy: all successful lives are alike, every unsuccessful one is unsuccessful in its own way… and that gives it charm and (unsuccessful) uniqueness.'
And indeed, the gallery of fascinating creative people parading before the reader is anything but boring. Most have withdrawn from the music scene, many from life itself. But what makes the book interesting is not only the actors in the spotlight, but also its hybrid form.
