LOOK AT YOUR ANGEL'S HOME
"There is a group of people who wanted to propose that the song "Look at your home, your angels" should be the Serbian anthem. Of course, we have our own anthem, but I took that as the most beautiful compliment," said our great artist Bora Đorđević, based on whose songs the director Marko Jovičić directed the comedy of the same name, which will be shown in the repertoire of the Odeon Theater from October 26.
The song "Pogledaj dom svoj anđele" is a criticism of modern society, and the deceased singer addresses the "angels" who do not want or refuse to see the horrors that surround us.
The acting ensemble of the Odeon Theater, this time headed by Saša Đurašević in the role of Jovan Jovanović, foreign minister of the interior, will perform over thirty well-known and favorite hits of the "Riblja Chorba" group, which marked the musical scene from the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century.
The simple story humorously describes a modern society poisoned by hypocrisy, duplicity, machinations, corruption, extortion, sexism and false sophistication. Are feelings real even in staged circumstances? Why do we deceive ourselves and others about the true motives of the choices we make?
A plot caused by a seemingly innocuous power outage culminates in a lawsuit that is not remembered in the history of the judiciary and a twist that will inspire us to wonder how many obsessives reside in each of us. The cheerful small-town girl Nada who wants to become something more than a minister, then Staša the starlet, influencer, singer, neighbor, Pera the deputy in the capacity of Nada's lover, the paparazzo Mić, Johnny... there are a constellation of characters who have very broad views when they are paid well...
An excellent cast supported by an outstanding dance ensemble, as well as a choir, along with great costumes and the most modern technical and stage performances of the Odeon Theater, make the show "Look at your Angel's Home" a unique musical comedy on the theater stage in region.
"The team works great, like you Marko, you are full of enthusiasm. I believe that we will do the right thing together", are the words of the legendary rocker, which will forever be preserved in the correspondence between the director Marko Jovicic and the frontman of the group Riblj Čorbo, and were written just a few weeks before he left us forever.
Bora Đorđević, you will agree, is one of the few people who truly knew how to portray the temper and character of Serbs and express his attitude about the society in which we live through his verses.
"I would like Istina, who "acts what her name says", to sing calm, positive songs that affirm the good." Bora Đorđević, in the last days of his life, which he devoted to the preparation of the musical, exchanging ideas with the director.
"If I want to talk, I'll put a mirror in front of me, so at least I'll be in intelligent company." Jovan Jovanović, Foreign Minister of Internal Affairs.
"It's no wonder if sometimes I bypass the truth for the sake of the common good, of course." Jovan Jovanović, Foreign Minister of Internal Affairs.
Director's word: After the glamorous and spectacular opening of the new theater scene in Belgrade, at the "Odeon" theater, the musical "Look at your angel's home" will be released under the spotlight on the same stage. It is a play with music by the legendary, recently deceased, Bora Đorđević. In the preview of the performance, overshadowed by the uncertainty of the existence of everything on the planet, it is difficult to remain isolated and think about art while a few hours away from us the sky and the earth are burning in the east of Europe and the Middle East.
Despite this, the great, positive energy of the entire ensemble of the "Odeon" theater was invested in telling a story about another more serious topic, the crisis of civilization, the hypocrisy, the duplicity of the "elite" in almost all modern democratic societies, in a humorous way, with the comedy of the situation. Ministers, godfathers, starlets, mafia, tycoons, media mages, corrupt judges without morals, they are all the "cream" of the societies in which we live our short lives. A simple story, a plot caused, apparently, by a simple power outage, but actually by a contrived diversion aimed at extortion and the banal arrival, also contrived, of a starlet in a seemingly wrong hotel room, allows us to entertain the audience with the show and encourage them to think whether all this seems familiar to us. Of course, it is particularly interesting that the protagonist sues himself in order to give himself an alibi, but also to make his actions pointless.
It is up to the audience to check how committed the ensemble is to creating a performance that "Odeon" will be proud of and will begin to nurture its audience free of all prejudices. The audience will see what is bad and good about us people and whether we are really "black" or "white" or are we somewhere in between and enjoy the all-time musical hits "Fish Stew" that generations have grown up with in our climate.
