Description

From Naarm / Melbourne’s cinematic soul movement come two stone-cold instrumental groups: Karate Boogaloo and The Pro-Teens. As fixtures of the College Of Knowledge roster, they have been responsible for some of the baddest instrumental records to come from the DIY soul camp.

Hot off the release of their stunning long-player Hold Your Horses, Karate Boogaloo have been an integral element of the fabric of Melbourne’s soul landscape over the past decade. Their singular connection with one another musically and sheer time on the clock culminate in a cinematic soul sound that is truly their own, tastefully reflecting elements of the great organ combos (Bookers T & The MG’s, The Meters) and parts of European film music of the 60s and 70s.

Helmed by prolific drummer Hudson Whitlock (Karate Boogaloo, Surprise Chef), The Pro-Teens are a breakaway studio project involving a collective of incognito instrumentalists from the ranks of College Of Knowledge players. After surreptitiously releasing four underground LP offerings, most of them unavailable digitally and distributed locally in small numbers, The Pro-Teens will finally perform their debut live appearance. The mysterious group will present a set of instrumental MF DOOM re-interpretations, ahead of the release of their long-awaited tribute album to the Illest Villain.

Untouchable soul selector Miss Goldie (Boss Action PBS) and College Of Knowledge partners in crime Jethro Curtin & Lachlan Stuckey will be spinning music on wax of the most supreme quality until late.

We acknowledge that this event will be held on Wurundjeri land of the Kulin Nation and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
