Prof. Dr. Dobrinka Kuzmanović, lecture "Artificial Intelligence in Education: What Are We Actually Talking About?"
In this presentation, we will examine the role of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in education from a critical perspective. A special focus will be on how the development and integration of GenAI-based tools shape the understanding of the concepts of "learning" and "education." We will analyze the functions these tools can have in the learning process—from practical to potentially transformative—and consider the extent to which they truly change the educational process. We will also touch upon the narrative of "revolutionizing education" with the help of artificial intelligence, as well as the "moral panic" associated with the idea that artificial intelligence will replace teachers in the near future. The goal of the presentation is to contribute to the understanding of the opportunities, but also the risks that GenAI brings to the modern educational environment.
Dr. Danijela Ljubojević, lecture "AI or You – Who Has the Last Word?"
How is the role of the teacher changing in the era of artificial intelligence, and what constitutes the responsible and pedagogically sound application of these technologies in the classroom? The goal of this presentation is to offer an overview of competencies and concrete guidelines to help teachers use AI safely, ethically, and in the service of learning. Based on the AI Competency Framework (2024), the key competencies that teachers need to develop regarding AI will be presented, with a special focus on five main areas: empowering teachers for responsible use of artificial intelligence based on human responsibility, AI ethics, the fundamentals and applications of AI technologies, AI pedagogy, and AI for teacher professional development. Based on the presented model, it will be explained how teachers can advance through three levels of competence (acquiring, deepening, and creating AI-related knowledge) and what it means in practice to move from a basic understanding of artificial intelligence to its responsible, pedagogically thoughtful, and transformative use in teaching. Each of these areas will be accompanied by practical classroom examples: how to quickly create three levels of tasks for different students using AI, how to recognize when AI makes mistakes, and how to explain this to students, how to explore ethical dilemmas (privacy, biases) with the class, how to teach students to use AI to understand the material—not to copy it, and how to make your job easier with AI-generated reflections and ideas for the next lesson. The goal of the presentation is to provide teachers and educators with a clear understanding of how to gradually and responsibly navigate these levels and how to make AI a tool that enhances learning, equity, and the quality of education, all while preserving the central role of the teacher.
PANEL DISCUSSION: "Learning in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: What Changes and What Remains the Same"
The discussion raises questions about changing approaches to learning, the ways students use GenAI in their daily schoolwork, as well as the challenges teachers face—from the superficial copying of content and a lack of understanding of the material, to a decrease in motivation for independent work. The discussion will cover which types of activities GenAI can enhance, where it might hinder knowledge development, and what pedagogical guidelines can help teachers maintain a balance between digital tools and traditional learning strategies. The panel provides practical insights on how to meaningfully integrate AI into the teaching process while preserving essential educational values: understanding, critical thinking, and student autonomy.

About the series "Boundaries and Possibilities: Artificial Intelligence in Education, Culture, and Society"
Throughout 2026, the Youth Center of Belgrade, as part of its forum program, is presenting a new scientific and professional platform to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on contemporary education, cultural practices, and social processes. Through thematic meetings—in the form of expert presentations, panel discussions, and workshops—as well as a final international scientific conference, this series provides a space for a serious yet accessible dialogue about how artificial intelligence is changing the ways we learn and transfer knowledge, artistic creation, everyday communication, and the functioning of society. Special attention is paid to the application of artificial intelligence in language and literature teaching, translation skills, issues of digital security and mental health among young people, as well as broader topics of ethics, law, the labor market, contemporary reading habits, and the preservation of cultural heritage in the digital age. The program features experts from the fields of education, social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, law, media, culture, and technology.
Considering that young people are growing up in a world where artificial intelligence tools are an integral part of everyday life, this program by the Youth Center of Belgrade provides a framework for their understanding, critical reflection, and creative use, confirming the institution's importance in youth education and culture.
