Acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke was born in Athens, Georgia. Raised in 12 states, he absorbed various influences, starting guitar at age 11. Influenced by Mississippi John Hurt, John Phillip Sousa, and Preston Epps. Debut LP Twelve String Blues (1968, Oblivion). Major-label debut Mudlark (1971). Albums Greenhouse (1972) and My Feet Are Smiling (1973) on Capitol Records. Collaborated with Phish bassist Mike Gordon on Clone (2002) and Sixty Six Steps (produced by David Z).
