Description

With Charnia, drummer and composer Pablo Tarantino presents his debut album – a work that forges the diversity of his cultural and musical background into a distinctive sonic language. The album title refers to a prehistoric creature that populated the oceans over 550 million years ago and is now understood as a symbol of the origin and beauty of life. Tarantino's music explores profound themes: love, belonging, alienation, evolution, birth, and transience. His artistic journey began in his teens as a student of contemporary music in Valencia and Barcelona, followed by periods in England, Scotland, and Germany – always driven by the desire to translate the stories of the world around him into music. He focuses on rhythm, melodies, harmonies, and textures, weaving them into a multifaceted musical narrative. As a drummer, he combines instinct with technical mastery: complex rhythmic structures sound organic, effortless, and full of energy. Subtle layers of sound meet clear melodic lines, connected by a common thread. For this, he has enlisted three outstanding musicians from the young German jazz scene. Together they create nine original works, complemented by a homage to Argentinian folklore – a powerful reminder of the bandleader's roots and the mysteries of human existence.
